Fort Kijkduin

Fort Kijkduin is an early 19th century Fort at the North sea that was built in 1811 on behalf of Napoleon Bonaparte. He saw great value in the strategic location of Den Helder and wanted to turn it into an important naval port. Today, Fort Kijduin is a tourist attraction with more than 40,000 visitors per year. In 2023, the fort underwent a major renovation of the Fort café (XML architects) and the exhibition spaces. As part of this optimization, studiostaak was also asked to renew the wayfinding. The result is a simple but beautifull route system that takes the visitor along dunes and sea, adventures catacombs and underground passages of the fortress.
